This was a fast-paced thriller packed with action, deception, many turns, and a touch of paranormal. Mave Michael is the daughter of a hitman (hence the title hehe) who is away in prison. Desperate to live a normal live without the shadow of her father’s name following her, she lands a job working at a once famed (and possibly haunted) hotel, the Château du Ciel. But when the resident artist turns up dead and Mave is found next to the body, her past comes back to haunt her and fingers seem to be pointing to her.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this one at first. I didn’t love the writing style at first, it seemed very fast-paced and there was a lot to process, but the turns kept me reading. The writing varies between the present, streams of Mave’s thoughts (both in the present and past), and letters from the past. Let me say that there is a lot going on in this book, and quite a few twists and turns. It had my head spinning sometimes, and there were also points that were predictable to me. I could have done without , but towards the end it was so crazy that I had to know what was going to happen next. This was a fun, fast read.
